General, Laparoscopic and Vascular Access Surgeon
Dr. Soham Dasgupta, M.B.B.S (Hons), M.S. (General Surgery), F.A.C.S, is a certified and fellowship‐trained surgeon specialising in all aspects of minimal access, laser and dialysis access surgeries, including laparoscopic procedures, laser procedures for proctologic conditions, varicose veins and arteriovenous fistula surgeries.
His professional focus is the treatment of patients with minimal access (laparoscopic) surgery and minimally invasive (Laser) proctology. In addition, his area of expertise includes vascular access surgery for dialysis dependent patients.
He then completed his general surgery residency at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. He further underwent training in transplant surgery and dialysis access procedure as a senior resident in the Department of Renal Transplant Surgery, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India.
After completion of his residency, he served as an Associate Consultant at the Department of Minimal Access, Bariatric and Gastrointestinal Surgery (MABGIS), Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, where he gained broad experience in minimally invasive surgeries, including both laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He is a fellow (FAIS) of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI). He received his Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in Hernia (FALS) from the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons of India (IAGES). He was awarded the Fellowship of Minimal Access Surgery (FMAS) by Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI). He earned his Fellowship of Association of Colorectal Surgeons of India (FACRSI) by the Association of Colorectal Surgeons of India (ACRSI). Most recently, he was awarded the Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
He attended the Department of Colon and Rectal Surgery, University of Texas, McGovern School of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA as a visiting scholar and gained widespread experience in management of various colorectal conditions.
He is dedicated to providing patients with state-of-the-art surgical therapies using the latest, least invasive, and safest techniques. His team provides general surgery services including advanced laparoscopy, bariatric surgery, and minimally invasive proctology at premier hospitals across Kolkata.
He is skilled in a wide range of techniques that allow for a choice for the best minimally invasive approaches needed to address specific surgical challenges, including: minimally invasive sphincter saving surgeries for fistula in ano like LIFT (Ligation of Intersphincteric Fistula Tract). FiLaC (Fistula Laser Closure), Submucosal Ligation of Fistula Tract (SLOFT), Distal Laser with proximal SLOFT or LIFT, and for piles like FGHAL (Finger Guided Hemorrhoidal Artery Ligation) and LHP (Laser Hemorrhoidoplasty). He is also an expert in performing open surgery for complex redo surgical procedures that require time, patience, precision and experience. Whenever possible, he uses minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques for care of entire spectrum of acute abdominal surgical issues, including disorders of the gallbladder and appendix, small and large bowel obstruction, perforated ulcers, diverticulitis, and perforated/obstructed/bleeding gastrointestinal tumors.
